About Jiaqing
I am a trans woman providing one on one client centred, trauma informed, narrative based talk therapy to youth and adults navigating depression, anxiety, difficult relationships, bullying, transitioning, coming out, neurodivergence, disability, family violence, intimate partner violence, childhood trauma, sexual violence, racial identity, and loss. Discrepancies between who we are, how we are viewed, or how we move through the world can cause and contribute to the stress we experience in our lives.
Together, we can create a space to safely explore the difficulties in your life and build strategies and solutions that work for you.
Before entering private practice, I worked for many years supporting survivors of gender-based violence of all genders, LGBTQ youth, and trans adults. My experiences as a queer mixed race (Chinese/Irish Canadian) trans woman inform my work which is rooted in anti-oppression, consent culture, and an understanding of intergenerational trauma.
I offer secondary assessments for gender affirming surgeries and I am a registered provider with the Non Insured Health Benefit program.
Who I Work Best With
I tend to work best with:
I tend to work with trans people and survivors of gender based violence on issues ranging from interpersonal relationships, addictions, neurodivergence, and medical transition.
I provide secondary assessments for gender affirming surgeries.
The conversations I find myself having again and again
I work with clients build an understanding of themselves, how they move through the world and how the world moves around them.
What gives me hope
The capacity for change that we call carry.
What's my story
My experiences as a queer mixed race (Chinese/Anglo-Irish Canadian) trans woman inform my work which is rooted in anti-oppression, anti-racism, consent culture, and an understanding of intergenerational trauma. I draw from my 20 years of experience supporting survivors of gender based violence and queer & trans people as well as personal experiences when working with clients. I aim to co create a space where clients can bring non judgemental curiosity to troubling issues.

What's it like to work with me
I have a collaborative approach that prioritizes listening and reflecting back what is shared with me. Sessions with me are fairly conversational and I would with clients to bring curiosity to the narratives they have of themselves and others as well as where and when those narratives arise.

What principles guide your work as a therapist
I believe in a collaborative approach and I very much welcome critique and guidance. I love when a client responds to a reflection of mine with, "That's not quite it, I think it's more like this." It shows me that my client and I are working together to build a deeper understanding of the issues at hand.
What misconceptions about therapy do you often challenge
I often challenge the idea that therapy will "fix" a situation. There are many tools to help us weather difficult times that will very likely not solve a problem but equip us to find solutions.
