About Cherie
Life’s challenges can feel isolating—whether you’re navigating stress, relationships, or the weight of expectations. But you don’t have to carry it alone.
Hi, I’m Cherie, a licensed social worker dedicated to helping individuals find clarity, resilience, and renewed confidence in their own journey. With over 10 years of experience in mental health support, I’ve walked alongside children, youth, and young adults as they confront obstacles in school, work, and family dynamics. My approach is grounded in empathy and collaboration, creating a space where you feel safe to explore your story without judgment. I believe in the power of your unique strengths—together, we’ll uncover them, develop practical tools, and foster lasting growth that aligns with your pace and goals.
My practice integrates evidence-based methods like Narrative Therapy, Person-centred Therapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy to reshape unhelpful thought patterns and reframe your story. Whether you’re facing intergenerational conflicts, anxiety, or life transitions, my role is to empower you with insights and strategies that resonate with your lived experience.
Originally working in schools and nonprofits in Hong Kong, I now continue my passion for mental health advocacy in Toronto, supporting clients in post-secondary settings and private practice. What remains constant is my commitment to helping people move forward with greater self-awareness and purpose.
Therapy isn’t about “fixing”—it’s about understanding, growing, and reclaiming your narrative. It takes a lot of courage to seek help. I am here for you. Feel free to book a free consultation with me to kickstart the journey.
Who I Work Best With
I tend to work best with:
I work best with adolescents (ages 10+), young adults, adults (up to 50) and their families who are navigating life's peaks and valleys.
Clients who thrive in my space are often dealing with anxiety, academic or peer pressure, self-image struggles, and difficult life transitions.
I especially enjoy supporting individuals who are navigating the unique pressures of family expectations and intergenerational or cultural conflicts.
Because of my deep personal and professional background, I am particularly equipped to help clients with Asian backgrounds.
I also support clients with higher risks like self-harm tendency and suicidal ideation.
Clients who feel stuck or overwhelmed often leave my sessions feeling seen, culturally safe, and empowered to grow at their own pace.
The conversations I find myself having again and again
In my practice, I consistently walk alongside individuals, teens, and families navigating life's peaks and valleys. The themes that show up again and again include overwhelming anxiety, academic or peer pressure, self-image struggles, and navigating difficult life transitions—such as adapting to a new diagnosis or immigration. I also frequently facilitate conversations around parent-child conflict, communication breakdowns, and the heavy tension that comes from balancing personal identity with traditional family values. The most meaningful moments in my work are helping clients move from a place of feeling stuck to discovering their innate strengths and building healthy, practical tools for resilience.
What gives me hope
What continues to give me hope is witnessing the profound, innate resilience that clients uncover within themselves when given a safe, non-judgmental space to heal. I believe that growth is entirely possible even amidst the toughest family and societal pressures. Over my 10 years of clinical work, clients have repeatedly taught me that seeking help is a massive act of courage. Seeing a client learn to navigate their emotions, or a family resolve deeply rooted cultural misunderstandings to find stability again, keeps me completely inspired and reminds me why I do this work. Being able to walk alongside my clients to see them grow and make changes at their own pace empowers me as a therapist.
What's my story
My journey as a therapist is deeply rooted in over 10 years of mental health support, bridging two distinct cultural and professional landscapes. I began my career working directly within schools and non-profit organizations in Hong Kong, which gave me a profound understanding of the intense societal, educational, and familial expectations that individuals navigate, especially for clients from Chinese backgrounds.
Relocating to Toronto and extending my practice into private and post-secondary settings reshaped my perspective on resilience and identity. This personal and professional transition highlighted how deeply our lived experiences, cultural backgrounds, and intergenerational family dynamics shape our understanding of ourselves and the world. These moments taught me that healing is not about conforming to external pressures, but about finding clarity and renewing confidence in one's own journey.

What's it like to work with me
I would describe my therapeutic style as highly collaborative, empathetic, and grounded in compassionate curiosity. I do not view therapy as a process of "fixing" someone; rather, it is a shared space for understanding, growing, and reclaiming your narrative. It is more like a journey of self-exploration.
When you step into a session with me, you will find a gentle, non-judgmental environment where you can explore your experiences at your own pace, with me asking many questions. Clients often appreciate my ability to combine deep warmth and emotional safety with a practical, strengths-based approach. They also feel great to have practical tools and tips from the session. I make sure my therapy room is filled with soft plushies, sweets/ chocolate, fidget toys and games.

Who are you when you're not working
Outside of my clinical work, I recharge by leaning into my creative and playful side. I love playing board games with friends, trying new recipes and exploring the city. I enjoy spending time with my high-energy kitten, she keeps me firmly grounded and patient.
